Sono Genet (2022-2023) é um livro de artista que documenta, através do desenho, da palavra e da fotografia, a viagem que Mauro Cerqueira realizou a Marrocos e a Paris juntamente com o artista franco-azerbaijano Babi Badalov. Desse encontro resultou também o filme “Babi e Genet – O suor do deserto”. Tanto no filme como no livro, encontramos o documento de uma viagem a lugares marcados pela presença da literatura — uma cartografia que tem como ponto central lugares marcantes da vida de Jean Genet, assim como do escritor magrebino Mohamed Choukri, de Juan Goytisolo e de vários autores da Beat Generation. A biografia de Badalov cruza-se de várias maneiras com a de Genet e, nesse sentido, o título do livro reforça esse espelhamento dos dois autores. Nas palavras do autor Pedro de Llano Neira, no seu ensaio “Apocalipse em Câmara Lenta”, os dois unem-se “numa busca poética de sentido onde ele é menos esperado: no domínio da periferia e marginalidade”.

Sono Genet (2022-2023) is an artist's book that documents, through drawing, words, and photography, the journey that Mauro Cerqueira made to Morocco and Paris alongside the French-Azerbaijani artist Babi Badalov. This encounter also resulted in the film “Babi and Genet – The Sweat of the Desert”. Both in the film and in the book, we find the document of a journey through places shaped by the presence of literature — a cartography centered on key locations from the life of Jean Genet, as well as the Maghrebi writer Mohamed Choukri, Juan Goytisolo, and various authors of the Beat Generation. Badalov's biography intersects with Genet's in several points, and in this sense, the book's title reinforces this mirroring of the two authors. In the words of author Pedro de Llano Neira, in his essay “Slow Motion Apocalypse”, the two unite “in a poetic search for meaning where it is least expected: in the realm of periphery and marginality.”
